Gas Masks In Berezovka

On a recent visit to Berezovka, Kazakhstan, Crude Accountability’s Executive Director, Kate Watters, explains how the children of Berezovka would be “protected” from toxic emissions in the event of an accident at the Karachaganak Oil and Gas Condensate Field. Berezovka is located on the edge of the Sanitary Protection Zone, an area around the field in which no-one should live. Approximately fifty percent of the community suffers from ongoing health problems, which the community believes are associated with the toxic emissions from Karachaganak. The field is operated by the KPO Consortium, comprised of Chevron, British Gas, Italy’s ENI and Russia’s Lukoil.
