Chevron interviews Kazakhstan

Crude Accountability presents excerpts of an interview with Makhambet Khakimov

Crude Accountability presents excerpts of an interview with Makhambet Khakimov, an environmental activist from Atyrau, Kazakhstan, who talks about the impact of twenty years of Chevron’s involvement in the oil industry in Kazakhstan. He describes the social and environmental problems, the increase in pollution, and the growing despair about Kazakhstan’s oil future. Chevron is the largest private oil company operating in Kazakhstan and is active at the Tengiz and Karachaganak Fields, both in western Kazakhstan, both highly sulfurous, and both severely harming the local communities around them.
